Madonna & Earth
For centuries we have seen images of the Madonna & Child, especially at Yuletide. Our traditions tell us that at Winter Solstice, the Great Mother gives birth to the Divine Child of Promise. Here we see the Madonna pregnant with the Earth, bringing to mind her ancient title “She Who Hears the Cries of the World.” The iconography of this image owes much to the beloved Virgen de Guadalupe, whose feast day is celebrated on December 12.
