Rainbow Isis

Rainbow Isis

Isis is often seen in traditional images in the pose depicted here, kneeling with her arms and wings outstretched, holding an ankh in each hand. The ankh is a symbol of the gift of eternal life. The word ankh means both “life” and “hand mirror.” It also carries a sexual symbolism of yoni and phallus. The ankh was known as the “Key of the Nile,” because it represents the mystical union of Isis and Osiris that initiated the annual Nile flood, upon which the life of Egypt depended. The rainbow here represents the power of her healing wings.
