Portraits by Commission
A Portrait in Progress:
Nora & Bud’s Wedding Portrait

Nora & Bud were handfasted in May 2000 and married in May 2001.
They have graciously allowed me to publish their Wedding
“Portrait in Process” so you can see how a portrait takes shape.

We begin with a photo. We shot 3 rolls of 36 each to get the shot we like.

Next we make a detailed line drawing.

They don’t look very attractive, do they? Just wait . . .

I learned this technique of creating portraits in colored pencil from Ann Kullberg. Her website,
annkullberg.com,
is full of resources for colored pencil artists, including a great ezine. Ann teaches workshops all over the country. I can’t say enough good things about her skill and enthusiasm as a teacher. Every time I attend a workshop, I learn something new. And when she’s not available in person and I'm struggling with a particularly thorny problem, I’ve been known to call on my “inner Ann”! ;-) Thanks, Ann!
